👕T-shirt season is making a guest appearance this week! ☀️ And after that comes wind season...and maybe third winter...oh, you never know with Idaho 😄 Anyway, I'm looking forward to some fantastic spring conditions for this week's sessions (starting with...a snow session tonight?! Because it's still winter in the mountains! ❄️), but in the meantime, here's a throwback of the gorgeous Olivia at one of my favorite early season locations: JUMP + BoDo 😊 April slots still available, links in bio to book!

🌷 What's that flower and when does it bloom?!🌸🌼 In honor of the first day of spring yesterday (‼️), here's my handy-dandy guide to what's blooming when and where to find it 😁 Obviously exact dates are subject to change with the wildly unpredictable Idaho weather (2023 was so cold that blooms were legit about 3 weeks later than they usually are! 😳), but rough guides are still helpful. Excited for all the spring color about to explode!! 🌈 ✨ FORSYTHIA ✨ Those golden yellow bushes! Find them mostly at Kathryn Albertson Park starting late March through early April. ✨ TULIPS & DAFFODILS ✨ Those beautiful bulbs! Find them all over landscaping downtown, but particularly at the Center on the Grove and Hyde Park starting late March through April. ✨ BLOSSOMS ✨ Those delicate flowers on the trees! The pinks are often thundercloud plums and pop open by the 2nd week of April. If it's a white blossom that looks prettier than it smells 🤢, it's probably Bradford pear. Best blossoms are at Kathryn Albertson Park and downtown along 9th St and Grove Plaza, or BSU campus! ✨ ARROWLEAF BALSAMROOT ✨ Those yellow flowers in the foothills that look like small sunflowers! Find them everywhere in the hills (particularly at the Military Reserve on Eagle Ridge), usually starting by late April. ✨ LUPINE ✨ Those purple, white, and sometimes pink stalks in the hills! Find them at select places in the foothills such as the Highland-Cobb loop and Military Reserve starting early May. ✨ LILAC ✨ Those light purple flowers on shrubs! Find them mostly at Kathryn Albertson Park starting early May through the end of the month. ✨ BACHELOR BUTTONS ✨ Those small deep blue flowers with a carnation-like shape! Find them everywhere in the foothills but particularly the Military Reserve. They're actually invasive so we shouldn't like them, but they sure are pretty :) ✨ CAMAS LILIES ✨ Those magical marsh flowers that look like a sea of blue-purple! Find them in marshy fields between Mountain Home and Fairfield around Memorial Day weekend thru early June, particularly at Centennial Marsh.

March always delivers on the crazy wind, and the Military Reserve always delivers on the scenery (even when the leaves are still at least a month out!), and put the two together and you have some blustery foothills magic 😄 This sweet family only had a short window for photos together (the joys of kids getting older and moving out of state!) and I was so glad we got a lovely sunny day in their timeframe to capture their golden hour dreams 🧡 Here's a sneak peek from yesterday!

🥰 Andrew & Terri 💍 As some of you know, I quiet-quit photographing weddings at the end of 2023 with no regrets, but when Andrew contacted me pitching their micro-wedding at their lovely home in Star as mostly a couples portrait session - just with a quick ceremony thrown in! - I couldn't resist 😄 He even sent me a couple pictures of the two of them so I could see how sweet they were together and then I was really sold! Anyway, I don't plan on coming out of wedding photographer retirement anytime soon, but these two were pretty darn cute and it was an honor to photograph them in their finery on their special day 😍 Here's a sneak peek!

Two things are certain on family sessions with little ones in March: kiddos are gonna kiddo, and the weather is gonna weather! The mild forecast turned very Idaho midway through our shoot Friday with a spontaneous hail storm, but fortunately it was short-lived and these cuties took it all in stride 😎 Of course an hour is a long time for tiny peeps to stay focused (even with the hail to keep them entertained!), so we kept them giggling with hugs, tickles, swinging, sword fights with sticks, and made it through with barely any wailing 😁 Here's a sneak peek!

✨ LOCATION SPOTLIGHT: Swan Falls ✨ Not that I've seen swans nor anyone fall down here (thankfully!), but the Swan Falls Dam area by the Snake River south of Boise is one of those epic locations that I recommend to anyone willing to drive a little! 😍 Especially this time of year when tree-heavy locations are not exactly at their finest, the canyon rim, cool architecture of the dam, and beautiful Owyhee Mountains in the background make this spot a perfect choice especially for adventurous outdoorsy folks, as demonstrated by Isaac at his senior session around this time last year!

☀️ Sunshine in the city 🌇 Beautiful Clara had probably THE best day of the year so far for her senior photos (mid-60s and sunny WITHOUT outrageous wind gusts? in March?! 🤯), and you'd barely miss the leaves on the trees with all the colors we found at JUMP 🌈 And those perfect cute outfits - gorgeous choices ❤️ Thanks so much for shooting with me Clara, here's a sneak peek!

This sunny sunny perfect weather (false spring, don't believe it's here to last! 😬) has me daydreaming about blossoms and greenery and all things bright and colorful, like these classy beautiful ladies' session a couple Mays ago 🌸☀️🌿 Spring is the perfect time for grad sessions, whether it's high school, college, or even higher ed! 📷 MORE recommendations on places to go for your senior photos when you're a nature kid but the trees are still bare and there's barely a hint of green in sight? 🌿 100% head to the foothills, like Zoe here mid-March at the Military Reserve! Is it still #seniorsunday if you're graduating from law school? 😄 I say it counts, but I'm a little biased because I really wanted to share these sneak peeks of Aleah! We first worked together when she was about to finish her undergrad at BSU a few years ago, and I was so thrilled when she got in touch to schedule new photos (and to get a life update that she was graduating law school - I LOVE hearing what my clients are up to these days! 😊). Getting to shoot in the U of I law library was a treat, because A) somewhere new, and B) library, and of course Aleah herself has an infectious energy and 100% genuine grin that makes her so much fun to work with. Here's a preview from Friday, with the most perfect weather you could ask for on the last day of February! ☀️

🌿 Are leaves and blossoms and pretty nature a must for photos? 🌼 Absolutely not! This time of year can be admittedly awkward shoulder season where the temperature says spring but the trees say winter, which is why I'm such a strong advocate for more architecture-based sessions in the meantime (because cool buildings and textures and colorful tables and chairs don't change with the seasons 😄). Case in point: Aiden's senior session from last March at JUMP, one of my top favorite urban locations for the most amazing glowy light and colorful variety 😊 Sessions for this March booking now!

🌹☀️ Spring sessions booking now! 🌸🥀 It's juuust starting to feel springish out there (although don't believe it quite yet - this is Idaho's famous "false spring" 😄), which is a good reminder that REAL spring and blossoms galore are just around the corner 🙏 So if your vibe is glowy sunshine and romantic weeping cherry blossoms like we had for Timea's gorgeous session at the Scentsy campus last April, now's the time to get on the calendar 😊 Link in bio to book!

When you're a total badass who could kick anyone's butt and look straight out of an action film...but also play classical violin and have the sweetest giggle 😍 Everyone meet Addison, my senior from Saturday! This girl and her family were the best to work with and I had such a lovely time wandering downtown and the Depot grounds with them...two great location choices this time of year that don't rely on leaves on the trees to be purdy 😊 Here's a sneak peek from this weekend!

Is there a such thing as...too much snow?? 🤔❄️ The skier side of me says NO, the photoshoot side of me says...maybe 😆 When we headed up Bogus Basin Road for Colin's senior session Tuesday, the snow gods had just dumped 14" of fresh powder overnight, meaning anytime we stepped off the VERY narrow tamped-down snowshoe track, we sank just about butt-deep 😄 Fortunately it made for lots of laughs and with Colin being an outdoorsy ski/bike/hike kid, he was up for the challenge! And those gorgeous snow-laden pine trees...more than made up for the interesting conditions. Thanks for a great session, Colin (and mom Patty!), here's a sneak peek!

DID YOU KNOW spring session bookings are OPEN? 🌸😮🌹 Probably not, because I've been really really bad about updating my social media since Christmas 🙃 Anyway, the days are getting longer, the temperatures are going up, and before you know it, it'll be sundress season with the lilacs like at gorgeous Tyanna's early May session here! Seniors, families, engagements, headshots - all booking now through Memorial Day, with links in my bio 😊 And if snow is more your vibe, yes, we'll still have a ton of that in the mountains for a while too, so get on the calendar soon for those winter wonderland shots ❄️ More new session sneak peeks + warm weather throwbacks coming soon as I remind myself that social media is a thing and ease back in! 😁
