Barring a last-minute miracle, I think the snow day Boise received earlier this month was winter’s final shot at making the past few months feel, well, wintry. ย Since this means spring is on its way, with opportunities for blossom closeups and floral portraits, I can’t be too bitter, but before we move on entirely, here’s one more celebration of snow and ice:
A winter without hardly any snow need not be entirelyย drab and colorless. ย Nature may be dormant, but with the right light (and right Photoshop) it can still be beautiful.
Autumn colors are starting to feel like a distant memory, the trees are close to bare, and the ground is littered with brown and battered crunchy leaves. ย With snowflakes and icicles still a ways off for those of us in Boise, is there anything interesting to photograph during this transitional period? ย Of course! ย The scenery may be somber, but that doesn’t mean it can’t also be beautiful.
The blustery November breezes are tearing down the last of the leaves, but before we’ve forgotten autumn color entirely, here’s a tribute to the prettiest of it all: the maple leaves.
