While we’re waiting for it to look seriously wintry here in the Treasure Valley, here’s a look back at past winter scenes in Idaho…and let’s keep our fingers crossed for a white Christmas!
Partly inspired by Pixar’s Brave, the talented Rachel and I drove out to BLM lands near New Plymouth, Idaho, for a truly epic evening photoshoot of costumes, horses, archery…and horseback archery. (Some shots involving red hair or mountains or intense storms may or may not have had a little help from Photoshop. Shots involving flying arrows and capes, however, are very much real.) For more photos from this shoot, be sure to check out the Facebook album.
When you think of Idaho’s most famous landscapes (and potato fields do not count), jagged mountains tend to come to mind. Eastern Idaho’s Craters of the Moon National Monument doesn’t have the same majestic beauty, but it does have a surreal draw of its own. Fields of lava rock, hardy trees, and of course the caves – Craters is worth a visit. Take a look!
Kathryn Albertson Park may be the go-to spot in Boise for outdoor portraits, but Veterans Memorial Park holds its own in natural beauty. Young Boise model Cara and I shot these portraits in the park’s woods and the shore of Boise Lake Cascade – she had no problem getting waist-deep in the clear waters! For more photos from Cara’s session, check out the Facebook album.
Idaho’s little mountain town of Stanley may not have many deciduous trees, but the autumn foliage up there in late September was still glorious. Enjoy this selection of fall color from around Redfish Lake and Alice Lake!
