Small-town Stanley, Idaho, has some of the coldest and harshest winters in the continental US, so you may want to check road reports before heading up there early in the season! If your luck holds, though, and the roads are clear, Stanley in early spring is a sight to behold. (Just keep in mind very few of the side roads are open to motorized vehicles this early!)
